Overview

Student life at the Institute of Administrative Sciences is enriched with a variety of student organizations, co-curricular activities and a community spirit prevalent on-campus. Prospects include a variety of recreational facilities, student governance (in the form of class representatives), and a pulsating array of communal and sporty activities. In addition, the University and local community are both large enough to put forward something to meet everyone’s interests and small enough to make active participation compatible with students’ rigorous academic schedule.

Sports

Each year competitive sports for both male and female students are organized at the interdepartmental, inter-collegiate and interuniversity levels in a variety of sports like hockey, football, cricket, badminton, athletic, etc. To encourage development of sports, outstanding players, and winners of the sporting events are awarded prizes, trophies and medals. A variety of sports facilities including playing fields for cricket, hockey, football and athletics, a swimming pool for male students, squash courts and indoor game facilities in the hostels are available at the Quaid-e-Azam Campus. Playing fields for various sports and a swimming pool for ladies are provided near the Allama Iqbal Campus.

Orientation

An orientation session is conducted at the institute to formally welcome and enable new entrants to familiarize themselves with the resources and the range of opportunities offered to them for their academic development and learning. This session provides an opportunity for incoming students to experience life at IAS. It facilitates them to get acquainted to the academic environment, learn about the campus rules and traditions, to understand how to access campus resources and support services, and ultimately to meet the IAS community. In short this session assists the students to acclimatize themselves with the life at IAS.

Events

IAS annually arranges a Career Fair for its students and alumni. Placement Office at IAS has well-built linkages with corporate, public and civil society organizations that help in attaining internship and job placement for our students. Career Fair gives a chance to our students to meet their prospective employers on the campus and simultaneously helps in developing professional linkages. Along with career guidance and counseling for students, Placement Office also promotes on-campus recruitment activities by inviting various public, private and third sector organizations which has proven to increase the employ ability of students.

Co-Curricular Activities

The institute also emphasizes on co-curricular activities for its students as part of their learning process. Annual events like Youth Forum and Sports Gala provide students an opportunity to present their talent. Such activities build student confidence and also help in their personal and professional grooming through their interaction with renowned personalities invited to the events. Study tours, career fairs, entrepreneurial day, youth forum and fun fairs are also organized and held at the institute on a regular basis. It also celebrates Pakistan Day, Quaid-e-Azam Day, Womens day and other national and international days that symbolize significant happenings. Students take the opportunity to unveil their talents during these events and best performers and high achievers are also awarded medals.

Community Volunteering

Apart from academics, students at IAS are also active in community and volunteer work. They render activities for a social and noble cause. Blood camps are installed under the head of a blood society which is managed by IAS students. Activities that highlight anti-corruption are also held on and off campus in association with National Accountability Bureau.

A well-established society of students under the name of Life Saving Cause (LSC) is operating at IAS since April 2011. The major aim of this society is to establish a database of blood donors at the institute’s level. The society serves the need of IAS students, staff and faculty members and their relatives. LSC also aims to establish its network beyond IAS i.e. at the national level. Creating awareness on blood donation is another one of its objectives. The society has successfully arranged blood testing and donating camps under the mission of Jihad for Zero Thalassemia (JZT) – in collaboration with students from the University of Central Punjab, and managed to collect 107 blood bags. LSC secured third position in the contest “Heroes of the Nation” with the third largest number of blood bags collected.
