Graduation Ceremony 2016 – Press Release
Graduation Ceremony 2016 at Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) took place on November 5th with great zeal and passion. The ceremony began with beautiful recitation of Holy Quran verses followed by Naat presented by one of the graduates. Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen, Dean Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences and Director Institute of Administrative Sciences addressed the distinguished guests, parents, graduates, faculty & staff with her enlightening speech. While addressing the graduates on this auspicious occasion, Dr. Jabeen shared with them the career horizons of IAS distinguished alumni body comprising of more than 10,000 alumni that are at luminary positions in and outside Pakistan. She elaborated on ever growing professional linkages that institute is maintaining with the public, private and corporate sector of the country. IAS is one of the top-notch institutes of Pakistan imparting education in public administration and human resource management where 50% of faculty members are doctorate with a blend of foreign & local qualification and all faculty members are MPhil degree holders with concentration in their areas of interest. She highlighted that diversity is the hallmark of IAS and that demographic statistics in Pakistan are changing the landscape in organizations. Sixty percent of our students are females and that the Punjab University represents the real Pakistan where students from far flung areas of Gilgit, Baltistan and Baluchistan come and join the University. IAS is a mirror image of Punjab University in all of these aspects. Director shared with the audience the financial support that institute provides to students in the form of scholarships and a special endowment fund that has been established in the name of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, first chairperson of the institute. This fund is generated solely by the contributions of alumni and it was urged by the graduates to inculcate in them the spirit of giving back to their alma mater in various ways, supporting the education of deserving and needy students is one of them.
Dr. Nasira Jabeen advised the graduates to be loyal to their profession and be a carrier of values of the institute that revolve around integrity, professionalism, positivity, creativity & change. She reminded the graduates that the institute has prepared them to be effective leaders, managers and administrators and above all good citizens. She appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and thanked the distinguished guests and parents for joining and congratulated the graduating scholars wishing them years of serenity and success.
A total of 250 graduates of year 2014 from the programs of BS (4 years) in Management, Master of Human Resource Management, Master of Marketing, Master of Health Administration, Master of Public Administration (18 years) and MPhil in Management, attended the ceremony. Position holders of all degree programs were awarded with shields, gold medals and merit certificates followed by awarding of degrees to all graduates. A salient feature of this year’s ceremony was that the institute invited the senior alumni that couldn’t receive their degrees from the institute till yet. They were given a chance to attend the graduation ceremony and be awarded with degrees on the stage. Alumni really appreciated the idea and this initiative revived their ties with the institute.
The event’s festivity was further enhanced as Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, worthy Vice Chancellor, University of the Punjab and Chief Guest for the graduation ceremony joined. He presented an ending note while congratulating Dr. Nasira Jabeen on organizing the graduation ceremony and keeping this tradition at the institute since past few years. He appreciated her positive administrative efforts amongst all the odds. Professor Kamran advised the graduates to work hard with passion and commitment in their practical lives ahead and question the status quo to turn things in the right directions. After the thought provoking speech of the Vice Chancellor the graduation ceremony was declared closed, the group photos were taken with all the faculty members and the youthful scholarly graduates of IAS. The beautiful ceremony of reviving the old memories ended up with a delicious meal served to all.
